Rehab United has changed my life! I began working with Brian Wilson, Ben Harwood and Justin Robinson over a year ago, when I came to them with severe leg weakness, lack of balance, coordination and drop foot due to my multiple sclerosis. As a result of my hard work and their dedication as coaches, trainers, and therapists I was able to complete my first triathlon in the summer of 2009 with the Race to Stop MS Program. I am stronger and more confident than I have been since being diagnosed with this degenerative disease in May of 2005. I am now working toward my second triathlon in June. Thank you Rehab United!!

Hello All,

All the hard work is coming to a head – next Sunday the cannon will go off at 7:00am and I will make my way on a 140.6 mile journey. It has been a good week in Lake Placid so far, the weather has been holding out and could be favorable on race day. This is Ironman #5 and I have never been so excited for race day. The previous 4 were filled with nervousness and anxiety, so I am really looking forward to having a lot of fun. A quick shout out to the people that made all this possible:

Bryan Hill at Rehab United. 13 months of physical therapy, x 2 days a week, x 2 to 3 hours a session. I might have spent more time with Bryan in the past year than he did with his wife. I often lamented - if an Ironman was a squat, lunge, and push-up event, I would be the world champion!

And to everyone who said I could do it and even those that said I should not . . . it might have been your doubts that made me work the hardest!

Best,

- Sonja Johnson, Zoot Sports

Hi Bryan,

I just wanted to drop a quick line to thank you so much for putting me back together for IMAZ! I finished in 11.51 – I did not really set any time goals for my first full distance, but I was really pleased with my overall performance. The swim went well – I stayed well wide of everyone (as you and B-Dubb recommended) and I did not get any shoulder pain - amazing! The bike was okay, I had a few stomach cramps and that worried me for the run, but luckily they went away in transition. The run went fine, I had some foot pain, but I put it to the back of my mind and was able to carry on - so not that bad! Overall I loved every minute – you should sign up! Hope is well with you and my thanks again – I am HIGHLY recommending you to my friends.

Take care,

- Sinead

Rehab United is far and away the best! I have raced for a long time (now as a professional), had several injuries, and I have never been to a facility like RU. The people are amazing and they WILL get you healthy and strong so that your injury will not resurface. They will fix your issue, but a big emphasis will also be placed on developing overall strength and mobility so that you are less prone to injury. They got me back to racing after a bad mountain bike crash last year . . . had it not been for RU I wouldn't be healthy and preparing for the this season. Even tough my knee is healed, I continue to go there three times a week to develop strength and mobility because I believe in their philosophy so much. I work with Mike and Bryan – both are fantastic and the entire crew there is incredible.

Thanks!

I've met most of the RU staff at various TCSD events over the past 15 months, but I became a patient only last week.

DO get the FREE injury screening – I haven't heard of another Physical Therapy practice in San Diego that offers such a service for free. When I got my free screening, I was told it would take 15 minutes, but I was there for about an hour. I was given a detailed assessment, taken through some specific stretches, and I left with handouts showing the key stretches and motions I needed to do.

That's not some cheap giveaway: I was given an evaluation and a focused physical therapy session. I was also told to get checked out by my doctor.

After being diagnosed with near-total degeneration of my L5-S1 disc, my Sports Medicine guy prescribed a short course of muscle relaxants, and a longer course of physical therapy. Being loyal to our TCSD sponsors, I immediately requested to be sent to Rehab United. His reaction? "I hear those folks at Rehab United are kind of hard core." I hope so! I want no unnecessary delays on my path to resuming a full training load.

I could describe my visits so far, but you really should check them out for yourself. I am completely confident I am receiving the most appropriate treatment from the best practitioners.

Bryan,

My coach, Lesley Paterson and I decided that during the off season I needed to focus on core strength and proper nutrition. My 70.3 times have been between 6:10 and 7 hours - I get through the swim and the bike portions in pretty good shape, but then the run comes and I tend to fall apart.

Lesley suggested that I attend your Tri-Strength class and I have been coming twice a week for the past three months. I have to admit that initially I was a tad skeptical; the exercises that you and your staff have us do seem unconventional at times. But, I decided to put my opinions aside and just go with it.

In the past month I have noticed some great results, I seem to be biking and running with a lower heart rates and faster times and I feel stronger in my workouts.

This last week I put it to the test with a 56 mile bike and then a 13.1 mile run. The surprise came when I started my run - I couldn’t believe how good I felt! My legs were strong! As I started the run and I found myself running an 8:30 pace, which is too fast for me if I want to survive the 13 miles. I tried to slow it down for a couple of miles but was feeling so good that I decided to see what I could do. I completed the 13.1 miles in 2 hrs 1 min – this by far my best time ever! To top it off, I ran the last two miles at an 8:30 pace! I finished the run feeling really good.

I want to thank you and your staff for the intense strength classes. It is making a huge difference for me and I would recommend it to anyone who is trying to build core strength and improve their performance. I am looking forward to Ironman 70.3 California to set a new PR and later this year to complete Ironman Coeur d’Alene.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

- Paul Peterson
