Biography: Calvin was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. He was inspired by an older cousin, who attended San Diego State University, to strive for a different path from his two older siblings - both of whom attended UCLA for college. After struggling his entire life with trying to shadow his siblings' every move, he grew enough courage to step out of his comfort zone and in 2017 began his journey in San Diego for college. He has been here ever since and now resides in Ocean Beach!

Most of the jobs that Calvin has worked have not been in the professional field. These jobs were always part-time and fell within the retail industry, food industry, or beverage industry. Although he worked these jobs to fill time away from school during breaks, they’ve enhanced his communication, sales, and cooperative skills. Calvin believes that no matter the type of work, every job will teach you something. He picked up his first role in the digital marketing profession during his third year at SDSU when he started strictly as a Digital Marketer for a very youthful Events Services company in San Marcos. After he realized who their target audience was, their company's aesthetic, and many other features of their company, Calvin asked to change his role and became their Digital Marketing & Media Coordinator, which allowed him to begin incorporating all of his design skills.

Calvin started as a Computer Science major due to a class that sparked his interest in high school. This class taught the design aspect of Computer Science, which is why he wanted to continue to learn it in college. However, Calvin quickly found out that it was quite the opposite. They were being taught the full-stack languages, having to take further math courses and other science courses which had nothing to do with computer science at all. After spending a year taking all the courses needed for the major, he couldn’t just throw it all away. Calvin then found the IS3D Department at SDSU which is offered to second-year students! As an Interdisciplinary Studies in 3 Departments Major, students were allowed to choose three majors from a list and create their own Master Plan. He kept Computer Science as his first and acquired Art: Multimedia & Photography and Learning Design & Technology as his other two majors!

Balancing three majors was probably the toughest thing Calvin has ever had to overcome. He struggled with the thought that he couldn’t graduate in four years, with having no spare time in order to work during school, and with not being able to join any organizations because his main focus was on schoolwork and building his portfolio. Keep in mind, he had to study for three different areas of practice, which was mentally draining.

Calvin is a very ambitious and fast-learning person. He has acquired many hobbies throughout his life that he continues to do and never drops. He has been drawing since he was a child and that is what sparked the artistic values that he has today. He also picked up skateboarding as a kid and that has never left him. In high school, volleyball seemed to be the dominant sport in his area. so he played for their high school and also played club, with plans to play in college. In college, he began surfing due to the heavy beach scene in San Diego.; he also began listening to House music, which seemed to be big at SDSU, so he wanted to learn how to DJ (both of which he picked up in about three days)!

Growing up, Calvin had two big dogs who he absolutely adored, one of which was a German Shepherd and the other a Golden Retriever! In their household, he had both his parents and three siblings (older brother, older sister, and younger sister). When asked what superpower he would want, Calvin says, "Let me ask you something… what can’t you do invisible? That will always be the superpower I want - invisibility!"

Calvin chose Rehab United because of two major reasons: One, it fulfilled the Digital Marketing title, except it was for a company he has a passion for: fiitness, wellness, and helping others. That sparks his desire to want to go to work and do what he does! Two, Clarence did a really great job and showed me that RU had an amazing culture, which was my number one priority during my post-college job hunt!
