Bridging the Gap Between Brain & Body

Our Approach

Occupational therapy serves as a vital bridge between the brain and the body. Our therapists work on restorative, preparatory, and compensatory strategies to assist patients in preventing, recovering from, or living better with injuries, illnesses, or disabilities. By adapting the environment and tasks to suit each individual, we enable our patients to thrive.

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)

We equip patients with the skills necessary to live independently within their community. This includes activities like shopping, cooking, paying bills, managing medication, handling finances, and social participation.

Cognitive Training

We focus on improving attention, memory, executive functioning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, allowing individuals to enhance their cognitive abilities.

Upper Extremity Exercises

Our therapists guide patients through exercises to strengthen and improve coordination and dexterity in the upper extremities. From writing to performing everyday tasks, we help individuals regain functional abilities.

Perceptual Training

We assist patients in interpreting sensory information from their environment and help them modify or compensate accordingly, enhancing their perceptual abilities.

Stress Management / Leisure Exploration

Our therapists provide techniques such as deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and mindfulness apps to aid in stress management and encourage exploration of leisure activities.

Vision Exercises

We offer targeted exercises to improve scanning and convergence abilities, specifically in relation to reading and writing.

Questions? We've Got Answers

  • Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping individuals regain the ability to perform everyday activities independently, such as getting dressed, cooking, or doing work-related tasks, by addressing physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. In contrast, physical therapy (PT) primarily focuses on improving physical function, mobility, and strength by addressing impairments such as pain, limited range of motion, and weakness.

  • Absolutely! Many of our patients benefit from doing OT and PT at the same time. Our Kearny Mesa, Escondido, and Carlsbad clinics are uniquely equipped to provide this type of treatment, as our PT and OT teams work closely to collaborate on an optimal plan of care.

  • OT can help to improve daily function for many conditions including work-related injuries, physical disabilities, developmental delays and disabilities, and geriatric (age-related) conditions.

  • Yes, OT can help address injuries and disabilities that impede your ability to work. Our occupational therapists can help you return to work and avoid future injuries by addressing any physical limitations, improving job skills, and suggesting modifications to the workplace.

  • Not necessarily! Under California's Direct Access Law (AB1000), patients can seek the care of an occupational therapist without a prescription from a medical doctor for up to 12 visits or 45 days, whichever occurs first. After that, a physician must sign off on your plan of care or provide a prescription in order for you to continue your treatment. We also offer cash-pay services if you wish to avoid going through insurance.
