Pelvic Health
Women’s Health Physical Therapy includes evaluation and treatment for pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, and scar tissue adhesions related to breast augmentation and reconstructive surgery following mastectomy.
Our Specialty
Pelvic pain and incontinence commonly occur after pregnancy and childbirth, however may occur in other instances as well. Common precipitating factors can include sacroiliac dysfunction, hip or labral dysfunction, coccyx pain due to fall, recurrent urinary tract infections/yeast infections, and/or trauma to the pelvic region. Physical therapy treatment will begin with a one-on-one evaluation in a private treatment room to allow open dialogue about the patient’s symptoms and medical history. Depending on the patient’s specific presentation, evaluation and treatment may include internal pelvic muscle palpation and treatment, with consent from the patient.
Physical therapy treatment sessions will be designed to improve functional mobility and strength as needed on a case by case basis based on an individual’s specific impairments and goals. Physical therapy can help reduce pain, improve posture, increase strength, and improve movement patterns to reduce risk of injury with daily activities, work, or child care tasks. Through our program, patients can return to their previous level of activity following injury, surgery, or child birth.
For patients with pelvic pain, it is strongly recommended to see your OB-GYN to rule out underlying medical conditions contributing to your pain, such as an infection.
To schedule your initial evaluation, please contact the front office at either the Kearny Mesa or Bonita location and specify that you are interested in scheduling a Women’s Health Physical Therapy Evaluation.
