Biography
Maya is a licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy who has specialized in outpatient orthopedics since 2015. In 2023, she specialized further in women's and pelvic health. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in San Marcos, CA.
Her effective treatment philosophy focuses on educating patients regarding overall body awareness and proper body mechanics, while integrating skilled manual therapy and therapeutic exercises to assist in rehabilitation and prevent re-injury. She specializes in manual-based treatments, incorporating skills from various Manual Therapy Certification courses.
As part of her pelvic health training, Maya completed the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Function 1 and Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist courses. This training allows her to evaluate and treat common pelvic floor concerns like pregnancy-related discomfort, postpartum recovery, diastasis recti, urinary incontinence, trauma, and pelvic surgeries. She personally underwent three pelvic surgeries over a seven-year span.
Maya was inspired to pursue physical therapy by her involvement in various sports and events as a young adult, including cross-country running, swim team, and dance competitions. She also has an extensive musical background, having taught herself piano. Currently, she enjoys yoga, Pilates, hiking, rock climbing, taking dance classes, listening to and playing music, riding her bike, and spending time at the beach with her dog, Duke.
